Auditions will take place at Gillman’s Dance Academy on Saturday, May 20th, 2017. There is an audition fee of $30.00 that must be paid prior to auditioning – fee can be paid online by clicking the paypal link below the audition form. The deadline for registration will be FRIDAY, MAY 12th. NO EXCEPTIONS.
By auditioning, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the “Participation Requirements” outlined below.
Audition times are determined by age as of June 1, 2017:
Ages 6-8: 9:00am-10:00am (dancers must by 6 years old by June 1st; no exceptions)
Ages 9-11: 10:30am-11:45am
Ages 12 +: 12:30pm-2:00pm
Rehearsals take place most Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons throughout the fall (September-December). Nutcracker Intensive Week, the TWO weeks where all choreography is taught, will be Monday August 21st, 2017-Thursday August 31st, 2017 in the evening.
There is a maximum of two excused absences per member. Excused absences include illness, funerals, weddings, etc. If injured, you still must come to observe rehearsal. If you miss more than two rehearsals, your role may be jeopardized, and an understudy may replace you. Decisions will be made by the Artistic Team. Absolutely NO absences are allowed during Theater Week.
All levels of company members have weekly class requirements in ballet technique. Dancers must be enrolled in 2 Ballet Classes Weekly. This includes Summer Intensive (June 5th, 2017-June 29th, 2017). Dancers will either attend Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays depending on their age (morning hours). Teachers will place students in which level classes they need to take.
MAGIC will perform two school shows and one public show of Nutcracker in a Nutshell. Theater week, which includes Dress Rehearsals and Performances, will be Sunday, November 26th, 2017-Saturday, December 2nd, 2017. Other than Nutcracker in a Nutshell, MAGIC members will be participating in a number of community performances throughout the school year. Those dates will be given at the beginning of the season. MAGIC’s mission is to share our art with our community.
MAGIC offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. Parents of MAGIC members will be assigned to be part of a committee (Ex: costume work, fundraising, marketing, etc). In addition, parents are expected to volunteer at at least one performance. If you do not fulfill your volunteer hours, you will be assessed a $200 fee.
An annual fee of $225 is due at the time of acceptance notice. Fees for additional family members are reduced to $100. MAGIC membership fees are necessary to cover our down payment for The Palace Theater rental.
MAGIC members are expected to raise a minimum of $50 to support the 2017 Nutcracker in a Nutshell performance. The Fundraising commitment can be met by selling a program ad or securing a “Friend of MAGIC” donation.
Dance Convention Requirement:
All MAGIC Members (if 7 years and older) are expected to attend ONE Ohio Dance Masters Convention (February 2018 or March 2018) during the season. It is important for our members to see other dancers and experience different teachers and styles of dance.
